Clinic-Based Recruitment Center
The IPPH recruitment center is located in the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (DCAM) at the University of Chicago Medical Center. The DCAM houses an array of outpatient adult primary and specialty clinics, as well as outpatient diagnostic and treatment facilities. The six-story, 525,000 square-foot building features 329 examination rooms, 90 rooms for outpatient procedures, a PET/CT scanner, two helical CT scanners, and three echoplanar MRI scanners. The IPPH recruitment center is ideally located in the DCAM within sight of the main entrance and adjacent to the DCAM food court. Owing to its location, the IPPH center is highly visible and well-trafficked, presenting ample opportunities for on-site “cold call” recruitment.
The recruitment space occupies 800 square feet, and is divided into four main areas. The first area is an open reception and waiting room with space for 16 patients. This space features an open reception desk that communicates with the main DCAM hallway, allowing for clear communication with people walking by and making the center easy to find. This desk has two Ethernet-enabled work spaces, a printer, and ample desk storage.
The center’s two examination rooms are outfitted with digital stadiometers, standing Omron digital sphygmomanometers, wall-mounted sharps bins, and storage cabinets. One of these rooms also contains a phlebotomy bench, a phlebotomy station with an Ethernet-enabled laptop and label printer, and a small refrigerator for bottled water.
The center’s dedicated phlebotomy room contains most of the same equipment as the examination rooms, as well as a laboratory-grade refrigerator/freezer and a swinging bucket centrifuge for basic sample processing. The IPPH recruitment center is located close to bathrooms for easy urine sample collection.
In addition, the IPPH has satellite recruitment kiosks and mobile units that may be deployed to recruit throughout the medical center, elsewhere on campus, or at events and centers throughout the community.
